Christian Cargill is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer.
His first documentary Heart Valley had its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Documentary Short. It won the BAFTA Cymru Award for Best Short Film and was nominated for The Grierson Award for Best Documentary Short. Christian was also nominated at Camerimage and BAFTA Cymru for cinematography. After huge international press, twenty film festivals and multiple more awards, it released with The New Yorker and BBC.
Christian is currently in production on two new documentaries, the first with The BFI Doc Society. WOLF (wt) is an intimate and deeply personal documentary about musician Patrick Wolf. The second film Recomposing Earth, about musician Erland Cooper’s buried album, will premiere at Barbican Hall on 8th June 2024.
Alongside his documentary work, he has directed music videos and promos with artists including Laura Marling and Palace. Branded work clients include Harrods, MTV, Pizza Express and The Wombles. His photography has been featured in various press publications – shooting artists, portraits and for brands including Gorillaz, John Legend, Kano, Sky, Partisan Records and the BBC.
He founded his production company Dalmatian Films in 2022.
